LYRICS FROM THE SOULWEAVER ALBUM LIBERTY:
Media Frenzy
(M.Goodjohn ©2011)
24 Hours, 7 Days a week,
It’s on your internet TV radio and print.
You can’t avoid the hype, even if you close your eyes.
With reporters standing round well they’ve nothing to say
And if you miss it then it doesn’t matter anyway.
They’ll just repeat it next, scrolling some updated text.
And is celebrity integrity a matter of life
And do we really need to know if they’ve been under the knife
Or who they’ve been with today, while more important stories fade away.
You’ve got ITN, Sky, CNN, BBC,
Well they say they aim to bring impartiality.
But if you voice a different view, they just say ‘well, you can’t handle the truth’.
Whatever happened to the news its got so consecrated,
It’s just another way to steal your mind, well I mind!
I’m not a part of your media frenzy.
I’m going down to the underground.
I’ve had enough of your media frenzy. I’m going down to the underground. Wuh oh.
Well the papers bring stories they’re exclusives they say.
But the photo on the front is nearly always the same.
And in this internet age, it’s already on your facebook page.
And they’re claiming that they aim to bring morality.
But they’re hacking at your phones and even paying police.
And when you pull them up for their crimes, they say “this is the most humble day of my life”!
Whatever happened to the news its got so consecrated,
It’s just another way to steal your mind, well I mind!
I’m not a part of your media frenzy. (Caught up in a)
I’m going down to the underground.
I’ve had enough of your media frenzy, I’m going down to the underground.
Wuh oh. Wuh oh. Wuh oh. Read all about it!
Your Nightmare
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
Another day inside my head, hurts to breathe the air I’m fed to numb the pain. Try to stop, confusion reigns.
As I walk the walls within, silhouettes reflect the things I could have changed. Something in me wants to live again.
And it gets so hard to sleep at night. I find I’m getting cold without a sweat, fear is all I haven’t got to yet.
It’s your nightmare, you created it. And you can get out of it, like you got yourself into it.
So I search on higher plains but my dream remains the same as all the rest, to feel the warmth of peace inside my head.
And it gets so hard to sleep at night. I find I’m getting cold without a sweat, fear is all I haven’t got to yet.
It’s your nightmare, you created it. And you can get out of it, like you got yourself into it.
A Little Bit Down
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
Living in an independent, satirical, age dependent
Interpretated state of mind, to come back in vacant times.
Living for time, living for fun. I’m living life one on one.
Venture into endless nights. Sick of what is in my sight.
I need a little more time to sort it out and think about it.
I need a little more time to sort it out and see how I feel inside.
I’m just a little bit down, just a little bit down.
Reconstruction of a time warped mind.
Watching the world through vacant eyes.
A fascicle, a parable. Rejected eyes and brainwashed minds.
And everything inside my head begins to grow from what you said.
Am I right to carry on or is being me what is wrong.
I need a little more time to sort it out and think about it.
I need a little more time to sort it out and see how I feel inside.
I’m just a little bit down, just a little bit down.
As Simple As It Is
(M.Goodjohn ©2011)
I want to know about everything.
I want a reason for everything.
I want to complicate everything.
Why can’t it just be as simple as it is.
Send me a message on a wave.
Make it hard to hear, an overstated gone to sea.
I’m no song but I’m a verse, I’m not the best I’m not the worst.
I climb a mountain to get high.
I climb back down and I’m doing fine.
I cross the world and the seven seas.
To find that life’s got the place to be.
But I still lie awake at night.
Why is it not so clear to me, what I want and what I need.
I want to know about everything.
I want a reason for everything.
I want to complicate everything.
Why can’t it just be as simple as it is.
Send me a message on the wind.
Make it hard to read, an overstated underrated.
Can You Listen
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
Can you listen now, do you hear me
Will you listen to a word I say
If I talk about the world we live in
Will you let it go into your head
Should I post it on the largest billboard
Should I put it onto video
Should I post it on a game show website
Or should I tell you on the telephone
Can you listen now, do you hear me
Would you listen to a word I say
When we talk about the lunar landings
Can you be sure if we were really there
We’re you there to see it live in 69
Could you believe that it happened at the time
Or was it all created just to blow your mind
By a president elect and his military might
Can you listen now do you hear me
Would you listen to a word I say
If I told you that the world has feeling
Do you think that it will be ok?
Can you listen now do you hear me
If I told you that we go to far
Too many taking when there’s not much giving
Too many ways in which we leave a scar
Polluting air and sea and land will have its price
But as a race we seem to love to roll the dice
Cutting trees with ease doesn’t make you civilized
While we try to conquer nature,
It still governs all our lives.
Can you listen now do you hear me
When I tell you that the ozone’s wrecked
Do you think about the fate of our children
Or do you think about your TV set?
Can you listen now do you hear me
Would you listen to a word I say
If I told you that the world was ending
Can you be sure there’ll be another day?
Can you take the chance that things will be alright
Can you keep the fear from clouding out the light
Change is coming so you’d better tag along
There’s a future to believe in
and the feelings getting stronger.
Comprehend
(M.Goodjohn ©2003))
Well our minds fly out the window as we’re told when to die
And religion brings in someone to which you can confide
The man in the moon is Jesus and he will never die
And the paper brings you stories but most of them are lies
Now Hollywood brings people you can look up to
But they’re taking all your money just like story tellers do
And the man brings you love, but how long will it last
She’ll take all your love away when the novelty grows fast.
I can see it coming in your big brown eyes
And I
Live my life so I can
Comprehend all of these
Crazy little things that
Drive me round the bend
Now the government brings leaders and some can steal your soul
Running your life freely, but wishing it could be sold.
Now I spend all my time trying to be me.
I don’t need no leader telling me who to be.
I can see it coming in your big brown eyes
And I
Live my life so I can
Comprehend all of these
Crazy little things that
Drive me round the bend.
I want to know about everything
I want a reason for everything
I want to complicate everything
Why can’t it just be as simple as it is
Liberty
(M.Goodjohn ©2011)
Everybody’s talking about evolution, revolution,
Liberalism, communism, crowding of the prison system.
Everybody’s talking about the lottery and poverty,
Election time, landmines, any kind of civil crime.
I cannot work it out myself,
How we spend our time complaining.
Analyse our father’s failings.
Christ, we crucify in kind.
As the outside’s slowly fading
In distraction we are jaded
Individual mind complacement can disband the way that;
Everybody’s talking about global warming, desserts forming, education, population, powers of the strongest nations
Everybody’s talking about nuclear disarmourment, the failings of the government.
We want liberty, we’re not living free.
The Man That Living Left Behind
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
With every smile I give that radiates, I see myself in you
And fight the lingered thought that I will never pull you from your
View of a world stagnation, emanations of what you think is right to live, right to die as long as you don’t question why.
Acquisitions of the heart reign high in any decent mind
But on this rocky ground your barriers ease the path of time
And in all my compositions, recognition goes to you with my open heart your inspiration shows we never part.
Right to live, right to die as long as you don’t question why.
Right to live, right to die as long as you don’t question why.
I still see the man that living left behind
Locked in away from harm, so many years gone by
Dreams of the man they say living left behind
Hoping the day will come when we walk side by side.
No longer love denied
When we walk side by side.
At The End Of The Day
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
At the end of the day when I'm confused by these self conscious ways,
I cannot sleep at night, I lay and wonder why I try.
At the end of the day, to make it all seem so clear.
She paints the picture of how I wish for things to be.
At the end of the day she's there for me and holds me close so tight,
kisses me goodnight and whispers softly in my ear;
"At the end of the day, I'll always be there for you.
Knowing what to do."
She makes me smile, every single day.
She makes me smile, with everything she say's.
She makes me smile, and every single day
Just makes me smile.
And when I come back cold and tired, She makes it all seem worthwhile.
Locks away the pain outside, and makes it all seem worthwhile.
And when I'm fed up with this world, she makes it all seem worthwhile,
Cannot function anymore, she makes it all seem worthwhile.
At the end of the day.
It’s Not That Serious
(M.Goodjohn ©2003)
So I search for consolation
Well maybe I’ll find some sedation.
In these days I run so free, hello I remember me.
We all need a place to escape from this human race
A way of stepping back to decide how we’re gonna play
We all need a break
Problems are the way it is
But if you’re still alive it’s not that serious
A million miles away in thought I stumbled across an open door
As I stopped and look within I saw where I had always been
As it dawned I began to sweat, I turned away as the panic set
But everyday I looked for more my eyes would wonder to that door.
We all need a place to escape from this human race
A way of stepping back to decide how we’re gonna play
We all need a break
Problems are the way it is
But if you’re still alive it’s not that serious
But it’s so hard to see, when you’ve got:
Bills to pay and mouths to feed and things to say and rules to read
You break your back tenaciously for living up to others needs
The local paper prints your name
You try to hide the utter shame
And so regret your every day with people and their silly games
The postman always brings bad news
The kids have started throwing food
You’re out in shorts, it starts to rain
You’re sure that you will go insane
The car wont start, you’re out of fuel
You’re running late, you feel a fool
Wait for the bus that never comes
Your legs don’t like your attempt to run
But if you’re still alive it’s not that serious
Moving On
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
I’m tired of always dreaming my life away
I’m tired of always reaching out for a better day
I’m tired of working on this filthy factory floor
Trying to make the break to a freer life, a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
Now I find I’m getting bored with being torn
I’m tired of peoples thoughts when they don’t know the score
I’m sick and tired of screaming out for something more
When all I’m looking for is a freer life, a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
High on the rhythm of my life a freer life, a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
High on the rhythm of my life, I’m movin’ on to a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
And now I’m sick of crying out like I’m insane
I’m sick of all the lying, the wicked games we play
I’m getting sick of feeling trapped inside a cage
Trying to make the break to a freer life, a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
High on the rhythm of my life a freer life, a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
High on the rhythm of my life, I’m movin’ on to a better day
Something says I’ve got to get away.
Bye Bye You
(M.Goodjohn ©2006)
I need to find something but I don’t know what it is
A certain kind of thing but I don’t know what it is
I keep a look out but I don’t know where it is
So I’m packing up my brain and heart and I’m heading for the truth
So I find a thought but I don’t know what it is
An independent thought but I don’t know what it is
A chance to break away but I don’t know where it’s to
So I’m packing up my head and heart and I’m heading for the truth
I journey out into this world
I’m taking back what I deserve
The Juvenile me is such a fool
So I’m leaving him behind this time
I know I’m fine without you
Bye bye you
I’m better of right now but I don’t know why it is
I’m feeling stronger now but I don’t know why it is
I’m not so frightened now but I do know why it is
Because I’m stronger, bolder, wiser, older
And I’m leaving you behind
I venture out into this world
I’m taking back what I deserve
The Juvenile me is such a fool
So I’m leaving him behind this time
I know I’m fine without you
Bye bye you
Five Mile Tide
(M.Goodjohn ©2003)
Slowly hours flow by like a current flowing through the reeds
Making out with what comes and goes
Mapping out a path that only time knows
Well safely kept is me, but never to seriously
Hoping that the world will never catch me
Looking on in vain to what I cannot see
How can I replace this five mile tide of fate washing over me
Walking across the shoreline, swimming in the sea
Listening to the waves crash, calling out to me
Well you can’t fight this current
You’ve got to let it go now, let it go now, let it go now, let it go.
Well hey hey hey hey pretend the world is fine
And say it loud in your favourite way
Woh I’m happy today
You live your own way, I’ll move along day to day
I’m not gonna listen to your words
There’s too much to gain from leaving the herd now.
How can I replace this five mile tide of fate washing over me
Walking across the shoreline, swimming in the sea
Listening to the waves crash, calling out to me
Well you can’t fight this current
You’ve got to let it go now, let it go now, let it go now, let it go.
